TCE 007: Building A Business Around WordPress, with Justin Meadows (part 1)
My Story
Starting school in Tennant Creek, central Australia, I developed a love for the desert and a dislike for shoes.
After moving to a small town in the Victorian high country, I developed a love for the hills and the community… and a dislike for shoes.
After high school and a year traveling around Australia’s deserts and coasts wearing no shoes, I moved to Melbourne to study video production. Despite having to wear shoes.
Eventually the love of bare feet and country town community drew me back to my home town in the high country to settle down and have kids.
I turned to the internet and my technical skills as a way to grow a business that could scale globally while still allowing me to live a barefoot lifestyle in the hills.
I wanted the flexibility to pick up my kids from school and spend time with them, working only when it suits me.
So I learned SEO, building my own websites and ranking them in Google. And then with that confidence I started offering to help other businesses do the same.
I started building a remote team to help me grow.
But I quickly learned that I needed to fix websites to fix SEO, and that lead to the realisation that I could hire great website developers, while I struggled to hire SEO experts.
So my business shifted to building and supporting WordPress websites.
Then tragedy struck as my relationship with my partner fell apart. Ending in a mutual agreement that I would look after the kids full-time. My ex-partner moved out of town.
So I needed to get smarter with my business. I needed leverage. I had limited hours to talk to clients, so I shifted to white-label wholesale.
Now my team has grown to nearly 20 full-time Ninjas. We provide 24 hour support to serve people all over the globe.
Now I produce training to help creative agencies profit from selling websites, while we build and support them.
